Lee Changho's Novel Plays and Shapes

Volume 1, by Lee Changho

Nowadays Korea is the power house of professional go. A lot of new joseki are invented there. Some of these are presented in detail in this book. Do not expect a fancy new move in the taisha or so. To players with not so much knowledge of joseki the moves like quite ordinary. For example
. . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . Top left corner
. . 6 . . 2 . . . . 6 instead of A is the new move.
. . . 1 . 5 A . 3 .
. . . . . . . . . .
. 4 . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . .
This and other new moves are analized in great detail in this book, sometimes in more than 40 diagrams. Studying this book will give you a better feeling of what is a good, bad or even result of a fight.

This book is intended for players of 1-dan amateur and stronger. I can recommend it without reservation as one of Yutopian better books to all players with a fair knowledge of joseki and those who regularly replay professional games. None of the moves are in 'ishida'. There is no duplication with Cosmic Go (K69, Cosmic go is about 4-4 point Joseki, but more basic) European top players beware: Guo Juan has read all 3 volumes in the Chinese translation.

A note about the title: 'play' is used where I am used to use the word 'move' in English. Objectively 'play' is the better word, as stones are not moved in go. However I am so used to 'move' that I cannot get 'play' out of my keyboard.
