K31: The second book of Go.
Richard Bozulich, and Richard Hunter (2 of 11 chapters)
The second book of go is aimed at go players who have read only a beginners
book. It contains a little bit of information on:
- Opening moves
- Handicap strategy
- Josekis (a set sequence of moves, usually in the opening. Locally they
are the best moves for each side)
- Securing territory by attacking
- Tesuji (skillful tactical moves)
- Life and Death
- Counting liberties (capturing races: the theory)
- How to win capturing races (tactical moves)
- Good and bad shape
- The endgame
- Ko Fights
This is a completely revised edition, about 32 pages more than the previous
edition.
A personal note (from Peter Zandveld, 4dan): I personally recommend the
section about counting liberties to every go player. It is presented in a
way that everybody who knows the rules of go and can count to 10 can understand
the theory. Still many strong players do not seem to know how to count
liberties in a one eye against no eye situation.
