Piece stands in Shogi are used to temporarily place captured pieces before placing them back on the board (on your side). They are placed next to the board, usually to the player's right, and are slightly lower than the game board. Correct placement of captured pieces on the stand is considered good etiquette and can help with strategic thinking.
